This is frustrating but it's just a part of life, I suppose. Treatment is now on hold. First off, my co-pay for just the interferon and ribavirin exceeds $1000 a month. Then, insurance pays nothing towards the neupogen, which everyone needs and that is between $2000 and $3000 a month, per my pharmacist.
Needless to say, my prescriptions didn't get picked up. Now, we will have to do some research to determine if there is any way we can qualify for discounted medications through the drug companies.
The good news is that when I went to see the Adavance Practice Nurse to get my prescripitions, I found out the results of my liver biopsy...Stage 1, Grade 2. So, I do have time to search out means to treat but it's still frustrating.
Keep your spirits high...robin

I'm so sorry. Treatment is incredibly expensive as I just went through that myself. However, I pay nearly $500 per month for the top level of health insurance I can get. Health care is SOOOO expensive.
ReplyDeleteMy co-pays for the first two med you mentioned were only $150 per month, but I needed so many others in addition that tx ended up running $500 per month. We're still paying some of it off.
Bummer...definitely look into the free programs from Roche and Schering-Plough.
ReplyDeleteNot everyone needs Neupogen, and it's "only" about $800/month - or at least it was 2 years ago when I went though treatment.
Well, you do have some time, I hope something works out for you - maybe a study?
I originaly went to my pharmacy and they where going to fill it until they realized the insurance was a minimal amount if I order through Insurance mail order program. Mine was caremark with Blue Cross which is now MEDCO. It cost about $100 per six versus 1200.00 BIG DIFFERENCE. It was shipped overnight in a cooler
ReplyDeleteHave you tried contacting your state legislators? It was only thru assistance from Blanche Lincoln and Marion Berry's office that the process started that allowed my husband, Terry , to be placed on a liver transplant list. They were incredibly helpful. What's more, they can put pressure on the insurance companies. Wishing you the best thru this process. Wish there was something we could do to help. Terry and Ruth in Jonesboro.
